OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT’s internet search feature is now accessible to all registered users worldwide. Previously, this function was limited to paying Plus and Team subscribers. With this update, users can search the web for the latest information directly through ChatGPT. Additionally, search results now include visual elements such as restaurant reviews within the ChatGPT app.
In the coming days, the internet search capability will also be integrated into ChatGPT’s voice mode. This enhancement will allow ChatGPT to respond to live spoken queries about topics like the weather or current events.
Mini-Dev-Day for Developers
OpenAI has scheduled a “Mini-Dev-Day” for Tuesday evening, specifically aimed at developers. During this event, the company will present updates and new features relevant to developers working with OpenAI’s technologies.
Improved Chat Organization Features
ChatGPT is receiving updates that will help users organize their conversations more effectively. During its seventh live stream, OpenAI’s team introduced a new feature allowing users to create project folders where they can store documents related to their ChatGPT interactions.
Another upcoming feature is an improved search function enabling users to look up specific information within their past conversations. These features will be gradually rolled out to Plus, Pro, and Team users starting today.
The next OpenAI live stream is scheduled for Monday at 7 PM.
Live Video Processing Comes to ChatGPT
One of the most anticipated updates is ChatGPT’s new ability to process live videos. In the next few days, users will be able to initiate a form of video call with the AI. During these sessions, ChatGPT will interpret the environment and answer related questions.
OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil, along with three developers, demonstrated this feature during a live session. The functionality was first announced in May alongside the introduction of GPT-4o.
Users with access to ChatGPT’s voice mode, including Plus and Pro subscribers, will begin receiving the live video feature today and over the coming days. The smartphone app already supports real-time voice conversations, but now it will also interpret images and live videos.
During the live demo, an OpenAI team member received real-time instructions from ChatGPT on how to brew coffee, demonstrating the feature’s practical application.
This development follows Google’s recent announcement of its own AI agent capable of processing live videos and assisting users in daily tasks.
Service Stability Updates
These announcements come after OpenAI experienced a major ChatGPT outage last night. While the service was temporarily down, it has since been largely restored, with most users now able to access it without issues.
With these updates, the first six days of OpenAI’s holiday event have brought significant advancements, setting the stage for even more features to come.
