Pakistan is filled with diverse culture and heritage and rich history. We have such rich history that if we promote it properly, we can encourage tourism in our country to the highest level. In order to promote tourism and as a part of the initiative, a Sleeping Buddha was unveiled to the public. Why?  In order to encourage tourism and attract tourist in a troubled province.

History of Sleeping Buddha:

The ancient Buddhist site was discovered in KPK in 1929 . It was a reflection of the diverse culture and history of the sub-continent. After about 80 years, the excavations started again in order to discover more and more. Then, a 48-foot high Kanjur stone Buddha was discovered.

KP region was once the center of Buddhist civilization. It took root under King Ashoka who was a Mauryan king 2,300 years ago. In the presentation, Imran Khan said, “ “It’s a question of preserving these heritage sites which are an asset for our country. It’s a world heritage site (and) because of it people can come for religious tourism and see these places”.

The director of Bhamala’s archaeology and museums department, Abdul Samad said, “This is from the 3rd century AD, making it the world’s oldest sleeping Buddha remains. “We have discovered over 500 Buddha objects and this 48-foot-long sleeping Buddha remains,”.

We should encourage more tourism activities in Pakistan and promote them, so that the world can see Pakistan in a positive light.
